Scrap-Happy

     I started this project during the long week before Nathan was born. I cleaned out my fabric drawer, cutting a bunch of 6" squares and then halving them crosswise.  Throughout the winter the kids and I sewed them together ~ they enjoyed choosing one triangle from the "dark" bag and one from the light "bag."  After that I laid it out, sewed the rows together, backed it (with fabric from my sister - thank you, Erin!), quilted it, and just this week finished binding.
     It was my first attempt at free-motion quilting.  Near the end, as I gained more confidence, I added some words (thanks, too, to my sister Michelle for her encouragement. :)

Toward the bottom it reads:

And, way at the bottom,

C.J. Mahaney on Modesty

Good Friday

Am I a stone, and not a sheep,
     That I can stand, O Christ, beneath Thy cross,
To number drop by drop Thy blood's slow loss,
And yet not weep?

Not so those women loved
     Who with exceeding grief lamented Thee;
Not so fallen Peter weeping bitterly;
     Not so the thief was moved;

Not so the Sun and Moon
     Which hid their faces in a starless sky,
A horror of great darkness at broad noon--
     I, only I.

Yet give not o'er,
     But seek Thy sheep, true Shepherd of the flock;
Greater than Moses, turn and look once more
     And smite a rock.

Show & Tell

     There will be no dramatic goat-birthing tales this spring.  Bien produced two sweet little bucks this past Wednesday without much ado.  'Atta girl, Bien.  All we did was discard the afterbirth, which was more than enough to cause Willem to resort to the far corner of the barn.  "Tell me when you're done messin' with the bloody stuff, Mom."
     "O.K."
     "Mom!"
     "What?"
     "I'm going to stay over here until you're done messin' with the bloody stuff, O.K.?"
     "Yeah, Will, gotcha."
The kids, of course, are darling.
Jax, on the left.
Jett.
 Show and tell.

Even Nathan is delighted with them.
